Flying Pig – Gastown

Friday Night. Every popular/hyped up place would have a long wait. We originally wanted to go to Phnom Penh but when we were looking for parking, we saw the outside of the restaurant and it was ridiculously packed. Time for plan b. Googled nearby restaurants and we decided to go to Flying Pig in Gas town. Taking our chances, we went there and the lady said 40-45 minutes while the guy right next to her said 20-25 minutes. Regardless, we stayed and waited outside. Within 2 minutes, they called our name and the table was ready!!!!

TFP Ice Berg Salad, Bone Marrow Cheezy Bread, Chilliwack Creamed Corn, Chef Erik’s Veal Piccata, 10z New York Steak,  Maple & Mustard Crusted Pork Rack

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 7/10 : Nothing really appealing. There was not much variety in my opinion. You have some appies, limited mains, and some sides. All my personal opinion. Maybe it’s because this place is so hyped up, I had very high expectations

Service – 6.5/10 : I guess because it was super packed, the service was a bit lacking. He took forever to come back with just water and for us to order even though we said we were ready, but he “had to go grab someone a drink”… well okay…. Kind of shows where their priorities in customers are? Hmm? I mean, you’re already physically there, why can’t you just jot down our order and then go get the other customer’s drink…??? *

Taste – 7/10 : Creamed Corn was semi-good, it had a kick of spice. The New York Steak was alright .. We asked for Medium Rare but it looked like Rare to me. The veal .. did not anything except the actual veal itself. Not a fan of the Ricotta.. Bone Marrow Cheezy Bread – gross – Heard this was the popular item on the menu so we had to get it, but it wasn’t really anything except a tiny bit of FAT LARD on a small section on the bone, and a couple basic cheesy bread… TFP Ice Berg Salad was ok to eat at first but the after taste was so gross. Definitely not a fan of blue cheese.. lol

Atmosphere – 7/10 : Very loud. Very Dim. Can’t really see the food. I don’t know how people have dates here .. (had a couple dining beside us and they look like they were on a date) but they were practically yelling over each other because the place was so loud… Probably not an ideal place to go for a date when you’re trying to get to know each other … o_o

Reasonably Priced: 7/10 : The mains were overly priced. The salad was overly priced considering what you get. Pretty much I would not pay for any of this stuff for the price they advertise.

Overall, I think this place is somewhere I would only go ONCE just to try it out and never again… lol.

yours truly
