Green Leaf Cafe – Burnaby

WAHOOOOOOOOOO! A new location closer to home! Finally got to try this hyped up sushi chain.

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 9/10 – There’s a lot of variety with some Korean vibes to it. Sushi, Udons, rice, kimbaps etc. check out the pics

Service – 9/10 – They’re super quick and super friendly. Nothing bad to say about them, but nothing that was above and beyond.

Taste – 8.5/10 – The aburi was really tasty. I actually enjoyed these ones. The udons were really tasty and saucy. The only bad thing that we had was the kimbap. It was really disappointing. smh.

Atmosphere – N/A – cute interior, cute dishes..

Reasonably Priced – 7.5/10 – For some things, it was pricier than what you’d get… example: the “gimbap” (which i call Kimbap) was $5. I was expecting some awesome gimbap. However, all that was inside the Bulgogi gimbap was Bulgogi. If you were to buy this at the Korean Kimbap place on North Road or Hannam Mart, there would be radish carrots and other things inside the kimbap!!! D:

Overall, I would come here again if I had to be somewhere else in Burnaby as well.

The Gray Olive Cafe – Burnaby

Even though it’s ‘Burnaby’, I would consider it Vancouver. Super cute and small but can get packed very quickly.

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 7/10 – They have sandwiches, 1 burger, toast, oatmeal, salads, benny, and chicken & waffle. Their menu only has Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch, and Drinks and they close at 3 so you best believe everyone would be coming here at roughly the same time.

Service – n/a –  Order and sit down. Then they bring it to you. You are expected to get your own cutlery or other condiments from the ‘help yourself bar’.

Taste – 9/10 – I thought it was pretty good. But most of the dishes we got, the taste started to get repetitive and I think I was unable to finish mine completely.

Atmosphere – n/a – other than the fact that it is really cramped in there.

Reasonably Priced – 7/10 – It is pretty expensive if you want the more interesting dishes. The plain jane dishes are decently priced.

Overall, I wouldn’t come here again. It’s too hyped/crowded. I would just go closer to home like West Village Cafe.

Sugar Lab – Burnaby

Suga Suga how you get so fly~

Ha. Ha. Ha. An interesting name for an interesting dessert place. Interior is super cute but quite small. The walk to the bathroom is quite aesthetically pleasing.

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 9/10 –  they got drinks (like bubble tea) in a fancy glass. crepe cakes. shaved iced. and probably other desserts that I wasn’t too excited about (so i forgot).

Service – n/a – you order and then you sit down and then they bring it to you. very little service required… Don’t get me wrong. They are friendly, but I can’t necessarily rate their service when there’s limits to their

Taste – 7.75/10 – The crepe cake was really good. I think I like it better than Estea Cafe. The Shaved Iced (Mango) was huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge! Was not expecting that. However, I prefer snowy village better for this. As for the mango drink, you could not mess that up (so it was delicious)

Atmosphere – n/a – quiet-ish, super small with limited seats. It seems like a place that people study in at night … super cute inside as mentioned above.

Reasonably Priced – 7.75/10 – decent price for the amount you get. Not over the top expensive. Still something that you can justify for.

Overall, I would come here again even though it’s about a 30 minute drive. It’s just worth it. Highly recommend.. 🙂

Estea Café – Burnaby

Originally we were going to go to Fondway Café except 1) it was packed with only 1-2 seats here n there because people hog space with their homework/laptop etc. Limited seating. 2) the menu wasn’t too appetizing. So then, we walked over 4 stores and boy am I so glad we went to Estea Café instead!!!

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 10/10 – There’s your Asian food/appetizers (similar to bubble world but I think they focus on dessert?). They also have Bubble Waffle, Belgian Waffle, Layered Cake, Bubble Tea, etc. It’s an all in one shop for dessert/Asian food!!

Service – 8/10 – You order at the counter and then they bring out the food to you. Not much service.

Taste – 9/10 – Everything was really good. Bubble tea was good (can’t mess up Lychee Tee). Bubble Waffle Ice Cream thing was good, but it was better to eat on a plate. The layered cake was delicious the first few bites and then after it gets a bit too creamy.

Atmosphere – n/a

Reasonably Priced – 7.5/10 – Not sure what the prices for the food is but for the dessert, it seemed okay.. Not super overpriced, but not dirt cheap either.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend you to come here because I will definitely return!

La Forêt – Burnaby

Saw this place on one of the buzzfood or narcity or vancitybuzz articles. Then it started showing up on my instagram and it seemed like a place I just had to check out – do it for the gram you know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 8/10 – For a cafe, I would say you get a lot of options. There are some unique items you get with your dish (ie: the black bread) so it is a little intriguing … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Service – 8/10 – You order at the counter when you walk in and then you pick a place to sit. Oh, they give you a number and you’re supposed to place it on the table that you’re sitting at. When the food is ready, they would bring it out to you. If you only ordered drinks, they will be ready at the drinks counter. I don’t think they bring that out to you for some reason. Efficiency I guess?

Taste – 7.5/10 – I was not really enjoying my waffles for personal reasons, but if I was well, I don’t think I would enjoy them any better than I was. Because they were rough/dry and a little bit salty but I think that’s how it’s supposed to be (since my boyfriend got the leftovers and enjoyed it thoroughly…)

Atmosphere – 8/10 – It is like a giant warehouse/garage that had a huge makeover. The walls, the ceilings, a lot of the interior was very creative and nice. A lot of time and effort was put into the decor. It’s a very hipster, cafe, “I’m very coo being in here” vibes – if you get what I mean… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reasonably Priced – 7/10 – I think it’s a little overpriced for the majority of the stuff there. I mean, it was like 8 bucks (taxes etc) for 4 small pieces of fluffy PLAIN waffles. I don’t think that’s worth it…

Overall, I would probably still come here again to try their OTHER brunch platters.

Trattoria – Burnaby

J.Cole was canceled so we decided to still go out somewhere to eat. Ended up here and we didn’t even know about PASTA TUESDAY! WIN WIN!!~

Variety – 9/10 – Well because it was Pasta Tuesday, we didn’t really look at the other options because the deal was just too amazing. We did get a couple appetizers though (there were quite a few to choose from – I highly recommend looking at the menu or asking your server for the dishes that aren’t on the menu!!!)

Service – 8/10 – Our server was really nice and quick. She could relate to us and was kind of funny?

Taste – 8/10 – The Linguine Gamberi was super duper sour in my opinion. Maybe it’s because of all the NASTY olives that were in there. The description sounded really delicious, but thank goodness I got the Short Rib Pappardelle. It was quite delicious. The spring salad and beef carpaccio were delicious. Not salty. Not bland. Perfect.

Atmosphere – 8/10 – We were out on the patio so it was nice.

Reasonably Priced – 9/10 – Because it was Pasta Tuesday, it was DEFINITELY worth your money. Super cheap and so worth it. Appies were decently priced. Drinks were norm. They have happy hour too but we missed it.. Technically we were there 15 minutes before happy hour ended but was not able to order until AFTER happy hour ended (because it was so hard to flag down our waitress).

Overall, I would come here again!

Audrey Moment Afternoon Tea – Burnaby

Super cute cafe. Looks so small and lame outside, but when you walk inside, it’s one of the cutest little cafes I’ve ever been to! (well, to be honest, I’ve only been to TWO high tea places including this one).

“V-STAR” Rating:

Variety – 7/10 – different finger food but it’s a set menu so it’s not like you’re choosing i think..

Service – 9/10 – they were constantly refilling our tea with hot water so that was nice.

Taste – 8/10 – the bottom tier was my favourite. Everything else was eh .. Top tier was my least favourite.. too sour/tarty

Atmosphere – n/a

Reasonably Priced – 6.5/10 – a little overpriced in my opinion but I guess it’s for the “experience”.

Overall, I would not come here again because I would rather try other cafes.
