Wow! It’s been a long break… I’m back foodie fam! Trying to catch up on my posts to give you guys the inside scoop on where to go or where not to go… or at least what to expect and you can decide if you still want to go there… 🙂
Variety – 9/10 – For appetizers, you could get calamari, dips, salads, oysters, prawn cocktail, tacos, ahi tuna poke, beef carpaccio, fish and cip cones, tuna & avocado toast and miso glazed sablefish… Keep in mind, this is a SEAFOOD restaurant and that’s their specialty (hence the happy hour choices – all seafood basically). They also have buck-a-shuck here for $1.00 feature oysters!!
Service- 8.5/10 – Everyone’s friendly and quick. Our server was really nice. Although it was really busy, she tried to be as fast as she could. If someone else (who wasn’t our server) noticed we were trying to look for our server, they would come to our table and ask us if we need anything.
Taste – 9/10 – I liked majority of the things we ordered. Wasn’t a fan of the “sushi chef’s feature” which is their daily creation. That day was supposed to be some sort of spicy salmon roll but it wasn’t spicy at all! It also had a weird topping that we were not a fan of.
Atmosphere- 9/10 – Everyone’s smiley here, maybe because it was hot and sunny and it was patio season… Everyone’s super friendly and the staff is helpful if you look lost (when you’re obviously trying to find your way to the bathroom).
Reasonably Priced – 7.5/10 – For happy hour, it was reasonably priced (for 90% of it)! If I was here for a normal occasion, it would probably be a little pricey for my pockets. The quality that you get is definitely worth it during happy hour..
Overall, I would come here again … in the summer … for happy hour 🙂
WAHOOOOOOOOOO! A new location closer to home! Finally got to try this hyped up sushi chain.
Variety – 9/10 – There’s a lot of variety with some Korean vibes to it. Sushi, Udons, rice, kimbaps etc. check out the pics
Service – 9/10 – They’re super quick and super friendly. Nothing bad to say about them, but nothing that was above and beyond.
Taste – 8.5/10 – The aburi was really tasty. I actually enjoyed these ones. The udons were really tasty and saucy. The only bad thing that we had was the kimbap. It was really disappointing. smh.
Atmosphere – N/A – cute interior, cute dishes..
Reasonably Priced – 7.5/10 – For some things, it was pricier than what you’d get… example: the “gimbap” (which i call Kimbap) was $5. I was expecting some awesome gimbap. However, all that was inside the Bulgogi gimbap was Bulgogi. If you were to buy this at the Korean Kimbap place on North Road or Hannam Mart, there would be radish carrots and other things inside the kimbap!!! D:
Overall, I would come here again if I had to be somewhere else in Burnaby as well.
Yum yum yum!!!! Italian!~~ This place was super close to the Raptors game and it wasn’t too packed surprisingly… Maybe because we came slightly earlier than the rush?
Variety – 9/10 – There’s a lot of different kinds of pasta that you can try. But there’s also a lot of appies and meat dishes that you can choose from.
Service – 9/10 – I thought the service was excellent. They were quick… Even when we were kind of rushing, they were able to meet our needs. Friendly and everyone is full of smiles there.
Taste – 8/10 – I thought everything was delicious. The beef carpaccio was pretty
Atmosphere – n/a
Reasonably Priced – 8/10 – It was decently priced for the venue, taste, and quality of the food. Not to mention that you also get free bread and balsamic olive oil!!! Yummm bonus!!~
Would Recommend 10/10
Overall, I would come here again if I was in the area…. but I live in BC so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It happens every single time we watch Wok in Love – we get hungry!!! Frantically looking for a Korean Restaurant that would still be opened, we found Tae Yang Gak.
Variety – 8/10 – Rice, Noodles, Chicken!!~ (all Korean style dishes) They actually have black bean noodle here!!!!!!!!! I finally found a place other than Sunny Dragon that has jjajamyun!!~
Service – 9/10 – Server was friendly. Tried to be fast? The food took a little bit long, maybe because they were already starting to do their clean up routine. We were their second last customer – I think…
Taste – 9/10 – Everything was delicious!!! Saucy but not TOO saucy? This is probably the best jjajamyun in Surrey. It is much more flavorful than Sunny Dragon’s…. Highly recommend!!
Atmosphere – n/a
Reasonably Priced – 8/10 – It wasn’t too expensive. The average Korean cuisine price. You are definitely getting the bang for your buck.
Overall, I would come here again and I would recommend.
A cute modern Italian restaurant in the corner of Columbia and 8th. Literally across from the New West station.
Variety – 8/10 – There’s quite a variety that you can get here. Your typical Italian tapas like meatballs or Arancini (and more) then you got your Pizza/Pasta and main dishes like Steak/Lamb etc.
Service – 10/10 – Super nice staff – waiters/waitresses and the door people … They were funny and conversational. They were quick and did not move like a Sloth (A++++).
Taste – 9/10 – It was quite delicious / cheesy / creamy. Majority of the dishes were soft (except pizza ofc) and it just melts in your mouth. There were herbs to complement the taste but I hated the giant crispy Basil leaves so I picked it out… Even without the herbs, I thought it still very Italian-tasting.
Atmosphere – 9/10 – The ambiance was nice. The interior design was modern, semi-classy, but always cozy in a way? The atmosphere just seemed like everyone was super happy and actually liked their jobs? Or maybe the staff just gets along with each other very well?
Reasonably Priced – 7/10 – It is a little expensive, but it was totally worth it for Happy Hour. We were able to grab a lot of dishes on the Happy Hour menu to share and I think we were all pretty full off those dishes!
Overall, I would definitely come here again!
A South Indian restaurant. Something that I’ve never actually had before. It was a very unique experience. Thankful Nikki brought me here.
Variety – 9/10 – Wow. I did not know there were so many different things you could get for South Indian cuisine. There’s a LOT of variety for “DOSA”….
Service – 8/10 – the lady who served us was nice. We were the only ones there …. so it was quick .. LOL
Taste – 9/10 – Since it was my first time, I have nothing to compare it to. The Mango Lassi was quite delicious. It wasn’t thick like a milkshake, but it was thicker than regular Mango Juice… It’s like a yoghurt drink. The main dishes we got were crispy and quite interesting. I wasn’t sure how to eat my dish so everything was falling all over the place.
Atmosphere – n/a
Reasonably Priced – 9/10 – I would consider what we got to be very cheap! It was worth the price considering I would be very skeptical about trying something new and having to pay for it if I didn’t like it …
Overall, I would probably be back here again.
A very rewarding treat after biking the seawall. We were a little concerned that it would be sold out by the time I got back, but luckily there were still a lot of the original flavor left (but only 2 matcha ones left)!
Variety – 7/10 – You can have dessert, soups + salads, breakfast, power bowls, paninis, meat & cheese platter, pastas, pizzas, and desserts/pastries.
Service – n/a – order and take your things and find an empty table
Taste – 7/10 – the sugar buns were pretty good except it had A LOT of cream. Possibly too much cream. It was really overwhelming after a few bites.
Atmosphere n/a –
Reasonably Priced – 5/10 – everything is really expensive here except for some pastries and i guess pizza is normal … but the breakfast, bowls, paninis, salumi + formaggi etc are over the top!
Overall, I wouldn’t come here again or dine here. If I did come here again, it’s probably because I wanted a sugar bun – but that won’t be for awhile…
