Wow! It’s been a long break… I’m back foodie fam! Trying to catch up on my posts to give you guys the inside scoop on where to go or where not to go… or at least what to expect and you can decide if you still want to go there… 🙂
Variety – 9/10 – For appetizers, you could get calamari, dips, salads, oysters, prawn cocktail, tacos, ahi tuna poke, beef carpaccio, fish and cip cones, tuna & avocado toast and miso glazed sablefish… Keep in mind, this is a SEAFOOD restaurant and that’s their specialty (hence the happy hour choices – all seafood basically). They also have buck-a-shuck here for $1.00 feature oysters!!
Service- 8.5/10 – Everyone’s friendly and quick. Our server was really nice. Although it was really busy, she tried to be as fast as she could. If someone else (who wasn’t our server) noticed we were trying to look for our server, they would come to our table and ask us if we need anything.
Taste – 9/10 – I liked majority of the things we ordered. Wasn’t a fan of the “sushi chef’s feature” which is their daily creation. That day was supposed to be some sort of spicy salmon roll but it wasn’t spicy at all! It also had a weird topping that we were not a fan of.
Atmosphere- 9/10 – Everyone’s smiley here, maybe because it was hot and sunny and it was patio season… Everyone’s super friendly and the staff is helpful if you look lost (when you’re obviously trying to find your way to the bathroom).
Reasonably Priced – 7.5/10 – For happy hour, it was reasonably priced (for 90% of it)! If I was here for a normal occasion, it would probably be a little pricey for my pockets. The quality that you get is definitely worth it during happy hour..
Overall, I would come here again … in the summer … for happy hour 🙂
I literally googled “top restaurants for birthdays” and this was one of it AFTER I modified the query to have “Vancouver” in it. Originally, the top choice was McDonald’s. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Variety: 8.5/10 – There’s a lot of variety for seafood stuff. I believe there were one or two meat dishes that you can get. You can get basic steak for your entrée but everything else was practically seafood (except for the Beef tartare
Service: 8/10 – The host was quick to help us and seat us. Our server was super nice and friendly. It took some time to get our things or order – possibly because our server was super busy with other tables (it was quite packed). We were thinking maybe the atmosphere or style is supposed to be slow because you’re supposed to enjoy your drinks and scenery?
Taste: 9.5/10 – I am NOT a huge fan of raw food. I probably should have done more research and read the menu properly, since a few of our dishes were rawer than I expected. To my surprise, they were all really delicious.
Atmosphere: 10/10 – The patio is super pretty. The view outside the patio is amazing. You can watch the sunset. You can look at the calm water (ish). The inside is very white/modern/clean look. The upstairs is so elegant-looking. Just magnificent…
Reasonably Priced: 7/10 – Super duper over priced. Very high end. But I guess you are paying for the quality of the food? I don’t think the 6 pieces of sushi rolls was worth $14. Again, I think the fancy setting, atmosphere, service, quality of the seafood is taken into account for the price… *shrugs* ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Overall, I would not come here again but I would highly recommend you come here at least once. If I were to come here again, it would be more to enjoy the scenery/sunset etc. Or if I had rich friends, I would want a birthday dinner here because of the pretty private room they have upstairs. 🙂
Never been here for dinner, only for Brunch – twice. Finally got used to the “eggs benedict” so I decided to get it the second time we went here.
Lobster & Shrimp Roll
Signature Joe’s Benedict
Variety: 8/10 – lots to choose from for brunch. It doesn’t necessarily have to be eggs only. There are other varieties with more filler options.
Service: 7.5/10 – They were quick to seat us and friendly. It did take some time to get our order in and to ask for our bill because our server was busy. The whole restaurant was full… So the wait was a bit understandable .. I guess..
Taste: 7.5/10 – The Eggs benny was really good except it was something I couldn’t finish because the taste was too much afterwards. The lobster roll was quite refreshing. If I were to come back, I would get that one instead..
Reasonably Priced: 7/10 – I think it’s overpriced but this would probably be considered regular / high end pricing for downtown. Since it’s quite popular among the millennials and those who love to dine downtown, it’s got brand and reputation to uphold – cheap prices would interpret a cheap taste. Which is why I think they have overly priced gourmet food….
