Hapa Izakaya – Coal Harbour Vancouver

Modern Japanese Cuisine. It’s unfortunate to hear that this location is closing down sometime this month… 😦

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 8/19 – A lot of things you could get! Rice & Noodles, limited Tacos, Sushi, Salads, Sashimi, cold Tapas, hot Tapas,

Service – 8/10 – The servers were friendly and quick. Everyone looked nice – literally.

Taste – 9/10 – Majority of the things we ordered were quite delicious!

Atmosphere – 8/10 – ambiance is nice there – probably because of the view of the water.

Reasonably Priced – 8/10 – I think it’s reasonably priced especially during happy hour! You can try and share many things during happy hour πŸ™‚

Overall, I would come there again but they’re closing down this location so I probably wouldn’t make my way to their Yaletown location unless I was already in the area.

Suika – Vancouver

Went to this place for a friend’s birthday. All I knew about this restaurant was that it was a Japanese Restaurant with a lot of tapas – which reminds me of quite a few other restaurants like this.

V-STAR Rating:

Variety – 7/10 – The selection was alright. To me, the cooked vs raw selection was 40/60 respectively. There wasn’t much on the menu that appealed to my eyes and also based on the price and the amount you would get. Meh.

Service – 9/10 – for a large group, their service was really good. They were quick and nice. Super friendly and made a couple jokes about how we already finished the bottle.

Taste – 8/10 – Most of our dishes were really good except for the duck. Was not expecting that at all and I definitely did not like that peanut sauce. Yuck. Everything else tasted fine/normal but they came in small portions.

Atmosphere – 10/10 – the whole customers entering/leaving and the employees would shout something in Japanese. The atmosphere was lively even though I didn’t understand. Their birthday song/singing got me really hyped even though it wasn’t my birthday. You can see their employee/restaurant culture is strong.

Reasonably Priced – 6/10 – For the portion that you get, it is really expensive. I don’t know if there are other costs placed into consideration when pricing these dishes, but wow, it is definitely not the bang for your buck!!

Overall, I would not come here again. I feel like their chain in Toronto is a bit better (Kingyo)

Guu Garden – Vancouver

Went here for a buddy’s birthday and was pretty excited. I enjoy these type of restaurants where they welcome you beyond the average.

“V-STAR” Rating:

Variety – 8/10 –
There’sΒ a lot of different tapas that you can get. fried. seared. raw. cooked. soups. noodles. Majority of the options are more appetizers in my opinion – or sharing dishes.

Service – 7/10 –Β It was really busy, but even so, maybe they should hire more staff for the weekends… The service was slow but the staff was friendly… so .. I guess it somewhat balances?

Taste – 8.5/10 – Β everything was really tasty & flavorful – even the semi-raw stuff was good (even though I don’t like raw…)

Atmosphere – 7/10 –Β it’s loud so everyone kind of speaks over each other. The area we were sitting at is a little cramped because we were a large party with tables lined up. the staff is always shouting things because that’s the style of their restaurant.

Reasonably Priced – 6/10 –Β definitely not worth your bang for the buck. the portions are PUNY. They need to reconsider what a “large” is because the portions they are giving that is considered a large is like a small… insane.

Overall, I wouldn’t come here again unless I have to (for large birthday gatherings).
